A brief History of the Coast Miwok People from 1579 to Today

Joe Sanchez will discuss the history of the Coast Miwok from the time of Drake, through the Mission Period, the Mexican-American War, the Gold Rush , California Statehood and to the issues of today.

Joe Sanchez is a tribal elder of the HuKuiko Band of the Coast Miwok, the Indigenous People of Marin County and southern Sonoma County. He is documented by the Department of the Interior and the Bureau of India Affairs. His band of Coast Miwok inhabited Tomales Bay at Etcha Kolum and Nicasio at Etchatamal.
