(CLICK TO SEE PICTURES) Dr. Ruth Mathis Bissell was inducted into the Rotary Club of San Rafael Harbor by membership chair Jim Carriere, who had her repeat after him that she would abide by the 4 Way test, have fun, and buy him lunch once a week.  She laughingly balked at the final request!  Ruth was sponsored by Brigette Waterbury and Harriet MacLean, and her assigned mentor MacLean pinned the Rotary wheel on her collar. Rotarians joined in shaking her hand or hugging her in welcome.

Ruth is the Assistant Principal of Terra Linda High in San Rafael.  She joined Rotary to provide support to the San Rafael community (parents, students), and to encourage additional community connections with schools.

She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and is a Board Member of non-profit Beyond Differences, a non-profit dedicated to ending social isolation among students in middle schools.

In addition to enjoying community service, Ruth’s hobbies include archaeology and anthropology.  In fact, her doctorate is in anthropology from University of Massachusetts where she collaborated on the archaeological analysis project focusing on the African Burial Ground Project in New York.
